From idea to action: Strengthening creative capacity in the Danish Society for Nature Conservation
The Context
The Danish Society for Nature Conservation, Denmark’s leading nature conservation organization, wanted to strengthen its ability to engage the public on important environmental and climate-related issues. With the participation of communications professionals, journalists, and social media managers across departments, the organization worked purposefully to develop skills in creative idea generation and to explore new ways to make complex technical and political issues more accessible to the Danish public.
Key focus areas:
to foster creative thinking and view environmental challenges from new perspectives
to build individual and collective skills in structured idea generation
to develop the ability to refine and hone ideas through collaborative feedback
to create compelling stories that resonate with different audiences and inspire action
The Process
The full-day workshop created a shared space where participants could expand their creative toolkit and experiment with new approaches to communication. Through a combination of exercises and dialogue, participants were introduced to methods that foster a creative mindset, help develop bold ideas, and translate abstract thoughts into concrete actions.
There was a particular focus on hands-on learning:
The participants used structured brainstorming techniques to develop new ideas.
Cross-departmental collaboration brought different perspectives into play and enriched the dialogue.
Feedback sessions helped refine the ideas and make them more targeted and narrative-driven.
The results
The workshop was organized by the Danish Society for Nature Conservation:
Enhanced skills: Participants were given practical tools for creative idea generation that can be applied across roles and tasks.
Strengthened collaboration: Cross-functional collaboration fostered a shared understanding and laid the groundwork for collective innovation.
Engaging concepts: A range of new ideas and narratives designed to engage the public and raise awareness of environmental and nature-related issues.
The workshop was a step toward strengthening the organization’s work in nature conservation. By building creative capacity, the team is now better equipped to communicate complex environmental challenges in ways that resonate with people—and motivate them to take action.
